Virgínio Moutinho is an architect, collector, and toy maker.
Virgínio Moutinho ? In the Architect’s Workshop is a temporary exhibition that brings together a vast collection of toys and constructions produced over the past four decades. Among handcrafted toys, mechanisms, collected books, and auteur films, the collection reveals a complex universe ? childish, playful, at times sensual, deeply personal, and simultaneously universal.
The design of this exhibition is based on the use of cardboard platforms at different heights to evoke the movement in Virgínio’s artwork and the bustling atmosphere of his workshop. The more than 500 pieces on display have been grouped by formal similarities into clusters of vibrant colors that highlight the pieces and divide them by theme. The author’s sketches serve as the graphic basis for the color bands and communication materials. The visual identity of the communication is based on a saturated palette from which some of the exhibited pieces emerge.
